Doorways at Oilfield Service Provider Installed Quickly and Accurately with ReadySet
A major player in the booming energy market needs a regional office constructed to give the company access to nearby oil and gas exploration sites.
The last thing the company needs is an unforeseen building project delay brought on by a construction labor shortage or difficulty installing critical building components. Speed and precision are paramount both to the successful completion of the construction project and the company’s business plans.
So when general contractor Dayco Construction, Inc. built a regional office in Conway, Arkansas for oil field servicing firm Schlumberger, they opted to avoid doorway performance problems and quicken installation by turning to ReadySet doorways from ASSA ABLOY Door Security Solutions.
As many in the construction industry know, doors and hardware are a major installation challenge. In fact, up to 25 percent of a typical post-construction punch list could be comprised of doorwayrelated problems. This statistic isn’t the result of poorly constructed products, but more a reflection on the difficulty of aligning all the individual components together to create a complete doorway.
The ReadySet system features preassembled openings that not only reduce installation time, but also lessen the chance of costly and time consuming errors. All of the individual components of a doorway—the frame, door, hinges, locking hardware and closers—are assembled beforehand and delivered to the construction site as a prefinished fully functioning opening. What makes ReadySet truly unique is a specially designed two-piece frame that fits into place after the drywall is already in place.
“The system is really out of this world. The contractors and installers love it because everything is completely finished,” said Dick Norwood, Vice President of Operations for American Builder Specialties, who was present at the Schlumberger job site installation.
With ReadySet there is no need to install the door frame first and then come back later to install the rest of the doorway. The special 2-piece frame allows all hardware to be installed on the door prior to final installation of the opening around a finished wall, creating a complete opening in a fraction of the time it takes using traditional installation methods.
“In a traditional commercial door installation, the frame goes in first, then, much later in the construction cycle, the door and hardware are installed, and finally a painter finishes the door,” Norwood noted. “If damage has occurred during construction to any part of the frame, door or paint, it has to be redone. ReadySet is designed to be completely installed at the end of construction, after the drywall is in place. It creates a more convenient space for the contractor to complete his job inside, painting walls, laying carpet. Then the ReadySet system goes in, completely and quickly. I can visualize a lot of people adapting to and demanding ReadySet in the future.”
George Vines, the Dayco Construction, Inc. superintendent, who oversaw the ReadySet installation on the Schlumberger jobsite was impressed with the new doorway system. “We loved it! We had block, metal and sheetrock walls at this site and I wanted to be sure we didn't have a problem on any type of wall".
The job went smoothly and the doors went in like clockwork".
Steve Smith, CECO DOOR Product Manager, visited the construction site to watch the preassembled openings being fit into place. “The install went extremely smoothly,” said Smith.
“We were working with some great installers who were willing to try something different. One of the installers told the team that just the day before he had spent three hours on a single door using traditional installation methods.”
ReadySet is available with the following brands of doors, frames and hardware:
Doors & Frames – CECO DOOR, CURRIES, GRAHAM
