ReadySet Relief for a Shelter Construction Project
Volunteers rebuilding a women’s shelter in Bosnia-Herzegovina will have a bit of a surprise waiting for them when it comes time to install the doors, frames and hardware. Much of this work will already be completed thanks to ASSA ABLOY’s donation of several ReadySet openings.
The doors and hardware on a ReadySet opening are preassembled on the frame, leaving the construction team with the task of installing the opening as a single unit. The ReadySet system reduces installation time and, because the hardware is attached to the door and tested at the factory, delivers greater security and quality, while eliminating job-site assembly issues.
A ReadySet opening is constructed with door and hardware products from CECO, CORBIN RUSSWIN, CURRIES, FOLGER ADAM EDC, GRAHAM, HES, McKINNEY, NORTON, RIXSON, SARGENT, SECURITRON and YALE.
Ben Fellows, Vice-chairman of the ASSA ABLOY Door Group served as the link between the company and the shelter construction project. Fellows is a director for the St. David’s Relief Foundation that provides humanitarian aide to the countries that once comprised the republic of Yugoslavia. The foundation has worked tirelessly to help residents of those areas rebuild and recover from the war.
“More than 10 years have passed since the Dayton Peace Accords ended a civil war that tore apart the former Yugoslavia,” Fellows explained. “While the war may be long over, the pain and suffering persists with thousands of people still homeless and displaced. About four or five years ago, our foundation began rebuilding schools. This year we are rebuilding a shelter in the town of Medjugorje in Bosnia-Herzegovina that will take care of battered and unwed mothers.”
Fellows along with his wife, Peggy, and Grandson, Andrew, are traveling to Bosnia in June to participate in the construction project. He said the ReadySet openings, which include hollow metal doors and frames from CECO, GRAHAM wood doors, YALE locks, NORTON door closers and McKINNEY hinges, were perfect for this project. All hardware was supplied through DOMINION Building Products.
The openings were assembled April 28, at the CECO factory in Milan, TN and loaded by DOMINION in time for a May 5, shipment by sea.
Fellows said ASSA ABLOY’s generosity and the work of the ReadySet assembly team at CECO will help facilitate a smooth construction process.
